Traces of Mother Earth

find their way into the nooks and crannies of our RV. At first it is a battle, this constant sweeping, vacuuming, wiping away.

scenic route . . .
the ashtray fills
with cherry pits

Wet leaves stick to my boots. Pausing my hike, my palm opens to a woolly worm who tentatively climbs aboard. “Okay,” I tell The Mother, “I hear you.”

mixed with soil
that grows a sapling
ash and bone
