haibun of the Autumn 2014 issue:
Horse and Rider
There is that horse. There is that rider. Hoof beats come, pass. A sky blue helmet police jacket badge on the sleeve a grip on the reins loose yet firm—horse and rider at a trot the rhythmic rise and fall of erect posture the impassive face perfection chiseled in morning sunlight. Horse and rider stopping for a light starting up again at an easy pace up down hands firm loose—eyes straight ahead from a regal height clip-clopping south among traffic a steady beat a hum a dragonfly a breeze. The cloud of rider and horse. The sound of hoof beats. The cloud.
